Over time, these hidden scars often fade to thin, white lines when complete healing has taken place. Provided that you follow instructions for preparation and recovery, you should have a beautiful result from your breast lift surgery. Upon seeing their final result, women who have undergone breast lifts typically rate the experience as “well worthwhile”

Some doctors may use ultrasound waves to break down fat cells before suctioning them out. However, ultrasound technology can be an effective tool for fat reduction, even when it is not used in conjunction with liposuction. Your doctor will apply an ultrasound device to the treatment area, and the waves will gently break down the cells, allowing your body to rid itself of the fat over a period of time. Ultrasound fat reduction treatments, such as Liposonix®, typically take about an hour and involve no anesthesia or downtime. They can also boost collagen production and improve skin elasticity. However, these treatments typically do not result in as much fat removal as surgical liposuction.
Before patients are permitted to undergo liposuction, their candidacy must first be determined by a qualified plastic surgeon. The best candidate is someone who is in excellent health, is within 25 pounds of his or her ideal body weight, and has deposits of fat that have not responded to diet or exercise. Men and women over the age of 18 who meet the necessary health qualifications may be great candidates for liposuction.
Like you, I do have patients who come to me concerned about scarring before their surgery. Afterward, however, few patients ever mention it to me, because the overall surgical result is so transformative. There is a surgical technique called the periareolar breast lift, which only involves an incision around the nipple / areolar complex, and the incision hides well along the border of the more darkly pigmented areola. However, you would be better suited for the vertical breast lift, and it is important not to choose the wrong technique in pursuit of fewer scars. The technique used determines how much lift can be achieved. In general, there is a significant difference in the aesthetic outcome of a mediocre versus a high quality breast lift, and by choosing a suboptimal surgical technique, you may compromise your ultimate aesthetic result in terms of breast shape or perkiness.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes fat via suction. It’s typically done with a thin tube, called a cannula, attached to a vacuum. No matter how healthy your diet or how often you work out, you can still have pockets of unwanted fat that resist your best efforts. With liposuction, an experienced surgeon can remove fat, contouring your hips, thighs, stomach, abs, waist, chin, or other areas.

The liposuction procedure can be performed using local or general anesthesia. The term anesthesia simply means "without pain," and the difference between local and general anesthesia is how much of the process you will be aware of. In most liposuction techniques, the process itself involves the injection of a numbing solution. With local anesthesia, your doctor will only numb the area of your body being targeted, and you will be conscious during the entire liposuction surgery. General anesthesia can be administered either as a gas or through a needle injection, and will put you to sleep for the duration of the operation. Once you awaken, you will still be numb in the area of the body that has been treated, and will feel little or no pain. At your initial consultation, you doctor will help you choose the right type
Dr. George Marosan, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Bellevue, Washington, prefers VASER liposuction in most situations. “Fat comes out more easily with VASER—especially in men, where it’s more fibrous,” Dr. Marosan says. He also points out another great advantage of VASER lipo: While fat that’s liquified by laser lipo isn’t usable, fat broken up by VASER is still viable for transfer to the breasts, butt, or anywhere you want more fullness. “The VASER allows me to sculpt the body, revealing the underlying muscle and bony anatomy. This is an advanced technique that goes way beyond liposuction for fat removal only,” says Dr. Marosan.
Liposuction is one of the most popular plastic surgery procedures because it offers safe, effective fat and cellulite removal, and it can easily be combined with other cosmetic surgery techniques. Some of the main liposuction benefits include improved health associated with fat loss, improved overall appearance, and the reduction in the appearance of cellulite.

Facial liposuction is most often performed with a micro-cannula using a tumescent technique. In some cases, liposuction of the chin, neck, and jowls, as well as other facial liposuction procedures, can have better results in these problem areas than other surgical techniques. Liposuction can also be more desirable because it minimizes scarring when compared to other type of facial enhancement. This treatment is usually performed on or below the chin and jaw line to reduce the appearance of sagging skin in the neck, a double-chin, or hanging jowls.
While the suctioned fat cells are permanently gone, after a few months overall body fat generally returns to the same level as before treatment.[2] This is despite maintaining the previous diet and exercise regimen. While the fat returned somewhat to the treated area, most of the increased fat occurred in the abdominal area. Visceral fat - the fat surrounding the internal organs - increased, and this condition has been linked to life-shortening diseases such as diabetes, stroke, and heart attack.[2]
Some patients report pain the day after their liposuction surgery. Usually, this discomfort is minor and can be relieved with pain medication and moderate walking. In less than a week after liposuction, most patients are able to move and walk normally, even returning to work with minimal discomfort. Patients should take showers instead of baths for about a week after liposuction. During this time, swelling, bruising, and numbness will begin to go away.
Recovery also involves unique expenses. Compression garments are very important in liposuction recovery, aiding the healing process and helping the skin conform to your refined contours. I usually provide one free garment. Subsequent garments can cost between $50 and $100. During your recovery, you will be prescribed pain medication to ensure your comfort. Depending upon whether insurance covered any portion of your treatment, and the specific pain medication prescribed, this can cost can range from under a hundred dollars to several hundred dollars.

Some people believe that they will no longer have to exercise and maintain a proper diet after liposuction. Unfortunately, this is not the case. While liposuction is an excellent way to reduce excess body fat in specific areas, the removal of fat cells is by no means a guarantee against future weight gain. The cells that are removed during liposuction will not regenerate. However, patients may find that if they do not make alterations to their exercise and diet routines after liposuction, they are more apt to gain weight in areas of their bodies that were not previously problematic.
The moon-shape (crescent) lift involves a scar hidden along the upper half of the areola border.  The donut (circumareolar) lift involves a scar hidden around the entire circumference of the areola border.  These scars camouflage very well where the darkly pigmented skin of the areola meets the lighter skin of the rest of the breast.  These lifts work well when the nipple is only slightly downward pointing but positioned relatively well on the chest wall.  One of the disadvantages of these lifts is that they can only raise the areola up to a maximum of about 2 cm.  They also tend to flatten the breast shape and are not ideal when there is saggy breast tissue in the lower pole.  Therefore, based on the low position of your nipple areola complex and the amount of breast tissue laxity you have, you would not be a good candidate for either of these lifts.
Tummy tucks: One of the most popular forms of body contouring, with a tummy tuck, a doctor can tighten the abdominal region via an incision running between the hipbones. In a full tummy tuck, he or she may also relocate the belly button up higher on the abdomen. By using liposuction to remove excess fat, the doctor can give patients a flatter, trimmer stomach.
Nonsurgical fat reduction treatments can also treat small pockets of fat, but be aware that RealSelf members give these procedures a lower Worth It Rating than they do liposuction. They usually require multiple treatments, over many months, to see a significant improvement—and the results are typically not as dramatic as those you’d get with lipo. After a nonsurgical fat reduction procedure, the body flushes out the damaged fat cells over time. Dr. Marosan also cations that “Patients who undergo nonsurgical fat reduction and then opt for liposuction surgery are more difficult to treat, due to the extensive internal scarring. In my practice, over 50% of my body sculpting patients had previous nonsurgical or surgical fat reduction, with suboptimal or poor results.”
When skin is damaged, the body repairs it by creating new collagen fibers, which gives the healing area a different look and texture: a scar. The “mended” skin will be less flexible than the skin around it, and it may have no hair follicles. The scarred skin might be a different color than surrounding skin and the color will change as healing progresses. This is completely natural.

If you deal with the hassle of body-shaping clothes (such as underwire bras) on a daily basis, then you already understand why breast lift surgery is one of the most popular cosmetic surgical procedures. At The Royal Centre of Plastic Surgery, women choose to undergo this cosmetic enhancement to increase confidence and enhance the shape and appearance of their breasts.
